Power of “changing the gear”

Although the idea that "there is no perfect time to start” can be true, in reality it is a lot easier said than done. Hesitation tends to creep in and thoughts that “you aren’t experienced enough”, “you aren’t capable”, or “you'll get to it when you're ready…”

However, if we take a step back, we have already participated in things by simply starting. For example, driving a car.

The other week, I saw a quote that stated “you can’t learn how to drive in a parked car.”

This perspective was eye-opening for me because it not only represented the importance of taking action but also reminded me of things we’ve previously learned by just starting, like changing the gear in a car for the first time.

In the beginning, it’s uncomfortable to be behind the wheel, but we take the obvious step by putting the car in drive and moving forward.

So this brings up the question of why we hold ourselves back from taking action in other aspects of life. We essentially find ourselves sitting in a parked car waiting until we feel ready, when maybe there is an obvious and uncomfortable step that can be taken.

So this reminds me to just jump into it, knowing there will be times of confusion and times of fear, but also times of understanding and learning.

And as you start to drive, you will recognize you were capable all along.
